North Carolina Uses Portable Traffic Lights to Make Work Zones Safer

Description:	North Carolina is using portable traffic lights in place of flaggers for a roadway construction project in Raleigh. Instead of three flagmen, there is one light operator who watches the traffic pattern and changes the lights accordingly, standing behind a fence, rather than a flagman who would be standing in traffic. Work crews have reported that driver reaction to the use of lights seems to be positive.
