Road Weather Resource Identification Tool Version 3.0 If you have previously installed the tool, please uninstall it before installing the new version. The new version will not install until you do this. From your Start menu, select "Settings, then select Control Panel, and then select Add/Remove Programs." Select "Road Weather Resource Identifier" and click "Remove." When you select the "Download RWRI Tool" link below, you will be prompted to select the folder where you want to save the zip file rwrisetup.zip. After downloading this file, you can use the WinZip program to extract the file RWRISetup.exe. (Note: When you double-click on the file, the system will open up the WinZip program and the user will have to navigate that program's user interface to extract the files. On Windows XP - handling of zip files is somewhat built in, that is if you put a zip file on your hard disk and then open up Windows Explorer, it will treat that zip file as if it were a directory and show the files in the zip file just like it were a folder.) After extracting RWRISetup.exe you will have to run it and follow the accompanying instructions to install the tool on your computer. Since the tool uses Java runtime, the installer program also gives you the option to install this application if your computer does not have it. After Java runtime is installed, you may need to double-click on the RWRISetup.exe again to install the RWRI tool. (This time say "no" if given the option to install Java.) An RWRI icon should appear on your windows desktop after the tool is successfully installed. You can then click on this icon to run the tool. Specific instructions on using the RWRI are built in the tool. If you have any questions about the tool or these download instructions, please call Roemer Alfelor with the Federal Highway Administration at 202-366-9242 or send email at Roemer.Alfelor@dot.gov. The tool is downloaded as a compressed ("zipped") file. If you need the Windows® version of WinZip®, you may download it from http://www.winzip.com/downwzeval.htm. Please note the size of the Zip File is 21MB.
