Project - NORTH CAROLINA: Charlotte Region Managed Lanes Study

This project will explore and advance pricing in the Charlotte region by evaluating the impacts of tolling an interstate prior to and during construction of new infrastructure. The project will also explore public acceptance of multiple funding sources. Different approaches will be developed and tested with the public to determine the strategies which have the most desirability and likelihood for implementation. The highest priority corridors, ultimately implemented by voter affirmation would be funded in whole or in part by congestion pricing or other revenue sources. Staff also seeks to define the role and institutional structure of potential new funding mechanisms such as congestion pricing on a regional scale.

September - December 2011 Update

Statements of Qualifications were received for the project. Parsons Brinckerhoff was selected as lead project consultant. Contract negotiations are underway. The project kickoff will occur in early 2012.
