| Description |
The Panama Canal is currently in the process of being widened and the increased capacity of the canal is expected to alter trade flows to the United States by enabling an increase in the volume of all-water shipments between East Asia and the U.S. Gulf and Atlantic Coasts. Though the widening project isn't expected to be completed until 2014, many of those potentially impacted Gulf and Atlantic Coast ports, like the canal itself, are already taking action to enhance their capacity and operations. This seminar will cover the Panama Canal widening project itself, a regional perspective on the potential freight flows in the Southeastern U.S. after the Canal project is completed, and what kind of improvements one of the ports is undertaking to be better positioned for the projected increased cargo volumes. |
